Pocket alternatives in 2026: what to use now Pocket is gone
Pocket shut down on 8 July 2025, and exports closed on 12 November 2025. For reading later, Instapaper, Readwise Reader, Matter and GoodLinks are the closest match. For keeping and organising links, look at Raindrop.io, or Karakeep and Linkwarden if you want to host it yourself. Digback is for a different job: links saved on Reddit, WhatsApp and Instagram.

What happened to Pocket?
Mozilla announced on 22 May 2025 that it would shut Pocket down. The service stopped on 8 July 2025. Exports were open until 12 November 2025, a month later than first planned. After that, Mozilla switched exports off and queued all user data for permanent deletion.
If you exported your saves in time, keep that file. Most apps below can import it. If you did not, the data cannot be downloaded any more.
Which Pocket alternative fits you?
Start from what you used Pocket for.
- Reading articles later, on a phone or e-reader: Instapaper, Matter, or Readwise Reader.
- Only Apple devices: GoodLinks.
- Keeping and organising lots of links: Raindrop.io.
- Hosting it yourself: Karakeep or Linkwarden.
- Your saves are on Reddit, WhatsApp and Instagram, not in Pocket: Digback.

Raindrop.io
A bookmark manager more than a reader. It has a free plan with unlimited bookmarks and collections, apps for iOS and Android, and extensions for Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. Pro adds full text search, a web archive, an AI assistant called Stella, and a broken link finder. It imports Pocket and many other apps, and has an MCP server. Our comparison with Digback goes into detail.
Instapaper
The closest to Pocket for reading. Save an article, read it later in a clean view on the web, phone, Mac or a Kindle or Kobo. The free plan includes up to 10 AI summaries a month and title search in the apps. Premium adds full text search and unlimited summaries. It imports Pocket from its settings, and has an official API.
Readwise Reader
For people who read a lot and highlight as they go. It has apps on every platform, including Windows, and an AI helper called Ghostreader that can summarise, tag and answer questions about a document. There is no free plan, only a 30 day trial. It takes a Pocket export file, and Readwise has an official MCP server.
Karakeep
An open source “bookmark everything” app, formerly called Hoarder. You can run it on your own server for free, or use the paid cloud. It can tag and summarise with AI, including local models, and searches by keyword and by meaning. It imports Pocket’s CSV export and has an official MCP server. Licence: AGPL 3.0.
Linkwarden
An open source bookmark manager that also keeps a copy of each page. Free to run yourself, or a paid cloud plan with a 14 day trial. It can tag links with AI, has full text search, and imported Pocket from version 2.11. Licence: AGPL 3.0.
Matter
A reading app for iPhone, iPad and the web, with no Android app. The basic reading service is free. It imports from Pocket inside the app. Its current paid plan is called Matter Pro, and there is no current price page on its site.
GoodLinks
A reading app for iPhone, iPad and Mac only, bought once on the App Store rather than by subscription. It imports from Pocket, syncs through iCloud, and recent versions can summarise articles with Apple Intelligence or your own AI keys.
Where does Digback fit?
Honestly, Digback is not a Pocket replacement. It has a simple reader with read aloud, but no browser extension, no highlights and no Pocket importer, and new accounts are paused while payments are set up.
It solves a nearby problem. Many links never reach a read later app at all. They sit in the Reddit Saved tab, in a WhatsApp chat with yourself, or in Instagram’s saved grid. Digback imports those three from their export files, reads each link, and lets you search them in plain words. If that is where your saves are, see how it works. If you want a Pocket style reader, pick one of the apps above.
