How to save and search Instagram reels
Save a reel with the bookmark icon, and find it later in your profile menu under Saved. Sort saves into collections as you go, because Instagram has no search inside Saved. To search reels by what they were about, download your saved list from Instagram and add a one line note to each in a tool like Digback.

How do I save a reel on Instagram?
Tap the bookmark icon under the reel. To save it straight into a collection, press and hold the bookmark icon and pick the collection, or make a new one.
Where do saved reels go?
- Open your profile.
- Tap the menu (three lines) at the top right.
- Tap Saved.
All posts holds everything you saved, reels and photo posts together, newest first. Your collections are listed next to it.
Only you can see your saved posts. The exception is a collaborative collection, which the people you share it with can see and add to.
Why is a saved reel hard to find later?
Because Saved is a grid of thumbnails, newest first, with no search. A reel you saved last year means scrolling past everything you saved since. The thumbnail is often a face or a frame that says nothing about what the reel was for.
Three habits that make saved reels easier to find
1. Save into collections, not All posts
Make a few broad collections, like Recipes, Travel, Workouts and Tools. Press and hold the bookmark icon to save straight into one. Four or five collections are easier to keep up than twenty.
2. Name collections for the job, not the topic
“Try this weekend” and “Gift ideas” are easier to use later than “Food” and “Shopping”, because they say why you saved it.
3. Clear out what you have used
Once you have cooked the recipe or booked the trip, unsave it. A shorter list is a faster list.
How to search saved reels by what they were about
Instagram cannot do this on its own, but your saved list can leave Instagram.
Step 1: download your saved list. Ask for JSON, not HTML.
- Open Instagram, go to Settings and privacy.
- Open Accounts Centre, then Your information and permissions.
- Tap Download your information, then Download or transfer information.
- Pick your account, then Some of your information, and tick Saved.
- Choose Download to device, set Format to JSON and Date range to All time.
- Instagram emails a zip, usually within a day.
Inside are saved_posts.json (every saved post and reel, with the date you saved it) and saved_collections.json (your collections).
Step 2: bring it into Digback. Open Import, pick the Instagram tile and drop the zip in. Each saved post and reel becomes a pin, and each collection becomes a board with the same name.
Step 3: add a one line note. Instagram does not let outside apps read a post, so Digback cannot see the caption or the video. It shows you the real reel in an embed, and asks for one line: “15 minute dal with no onion”, “hill station near Pune”. The Inbox walks you through them one by one.
That line is what makes the reel findable. Search in Digback matches words and meaning together, so a note like “cheap flights trick” can turn up for a search like “save money on air tickets”. Add type:video to see only reels. The Instagram page has the full details.
Where Digback does not help: it cannot download the reel, read its caption, or keep a copy if the creator deletes it. The note step takes a few seconds a reel, so it is worth it for the ones you care about, not for all of them. New accounts on digback.com are paused while payments are set up.
