How to stop losing links shared in WhatsApp groups
To find an old link in WhatsApp, open the chat, tap its name, and open Media, links and docs, then the Links tab. To stop losing links, star the useful ones or forward them to your own chat. To search every link a group ever shared by what it was about, export the chat and import it into Digback.

How do I find an old link in a WhatsApp chat?
Use Media, links and docs. It lists every link shared in one chat or group, newest first.
- Open the chat or group.
- Tap its name at the top.
- Tap Media, links and docs.
- Pick the Links tab.
It shows each link with a small preview. Scroll down, or tap one to jump to the message it was in.
Can I search for a link across every chat?
Yes, if you remember a word from the message or the link itself.
- On the Chats screen, tap the search bar.
- Pick the Links filter, so only messages with links show up.
- Type a word you remember, like the site name.
This only matches exact words. If you remember what the link was about but not the words in it, search will not find it.
Why do links in groups get lost?
Because a group is a stream. A good link arrives between good mornings, forwards and replies, and by evening it is a hundred messages up. Nobody writes down why it mattered. The Links tab keeps the link, but not the reason you cared, and it shows everything in one long list.
Three habits that keep good links from getting lost
1. Star the ones worth keeping
Press and hold the message, then tap the star. WhatsApp lists every starred message together under Starred, across all your chats.
2. Forward them to your own chat, with a word or two
WhatsApp lets you message yourself: start a new chat and pick your own name at the top of the list. Forward the link there and add a few words, like “salary tool from the college group”. Those words are what you will search for later.
3. Pin the group’s best links
WhatsApp lets you pin a message to the top of a chat. In groups, admins can choose who is allowed to do it. It suits the one link everyone keeps asking for.
How to make every shared link searchable
If a group shares a lot of useful links, or your own chat is full of them, export the chat once and search it properly.
- Open the chat, tap the name, and tap Export chat.
- Choose Without media. The file stays small, and only the text is needed.
- Save the file, or send it to yourself.
- In Digback, open Import, pick the WhatsApp tile, and drop the file in.
Every link in the chat becomes a pin. The message around the link becomes the note, and the time it was sent becomes the date. Digback then reads each page for its title, description and tags.
Now you can search by what a link was about, not only the words in it: “that salary calculator someone shared” or “the React course from last year”. Add from:whatsapp to look only at WhatsApp links.
